How the ski size calculator works

We start from your height and adjust for level, weight and skiing style — the same logic rental shops use:

  • Beginners: skis reaching between chin and nose (height − 12 to 20 cm). Short skis turn easily.
  • Intermediates: nose to forehead (height − 3 to 10 cm).
  • Advanced: around head height or longer.
  • Heavier than average for your height: slightly longer. Lighter: slightly shorter.
  • Powder skis are usually longer; park skis slightly shorter.

It’s a starting point — the rental shop may suggest a few centimetres either way depending on the model. Learn more in how to choose skis.

Children: for young kids, beginner skis usually reach between chest and chin. The calculator works for kids from about 90 cm tall.

Frequently asked questions

What size skis should a beginner get?

Most beginners do best with skis that reach between their chin and nose — roughly their height minus 12 to 20 cm.

Are shorter skis easier to learn on?

Yes. Shorter, softer skis are easier to turn and control at low speeds, which is why rental shops give beginners shorter skis.
