The best resort for a first trip isn’t the biggest or most famous. Look for gentle, wide slopes close to the village, excellent ski schools, easy lifts, reliable snow and a compact layout. Here are our favourites.
What makes a resort great for beginners?
- A dedicated, free or cheap beginner area with magic carpets
- Plenty of green and easy blue runs for days 3–6
- Easy runs back to the village, so you don’t need to take lifts down
- Good-value, well-organised ski schools with instructors who speak your language
- Short transfer time and compact village
- Reliable snow (altitude or snowmaking)
