March and April can be the best time for beginners: longer, sunnier days, warmer temperatures, soft snow that’s forgiving when you fall, quieter slopes and lower prices outside Easter.
What to know about spring skiing
- Snow changes through the day: firm or icy early, perfect mid-morning, slushy in the afternoon. Ski early and finish by 14:00–15:00.
- Choose altitude: resorts with slopes above 2,000 m keep good snow longest.
- Sun protection is essential (tips).
- Dress lighter — light base layer and shell.
- Avalanche risk off-piste rises on warm afternoons.
